Thank you Garstang Musical Productions, for your hospitality and an enjoyable afternoon.Announcing the passing of a loved one in local news media is a long standing tradition and we are proud of the trust placed in us to make these important announcements. “Only Remembered” was a fitting tribute to those who paid so great a price, with the added bonus of supporting The Royal British Legion- having them in the foyer was a particularly nice touch, showing that they are a `year round` organisation. Musical Director and accompanist, Anthony Satterthwaite had worked hard with the company, and the company rose to the occasion.Īfter last years` concert, “Love Is”, I did wonder how they would follow it this year- I needn`t worry though, as Garstang Musical Productions seem to have hit on a winning formula- A piano, nothing contrived- just great story telling and great singing. Lucy Burdett, as choreographer kept the troops in line (not literally) with her steps.

Phillip Bourne as Producer, had obviously put a lot of time and effort into this production, and its` content, and should be congratulated for doing so. “Only Remembered” managed this with a dignified assurance- Ben Parkinson`s trumpet for Last Post was simply superb.

As with any concert/ production commemorating war, whether it be The Great War or any since, you always feel it`s a prelude to the Last Post, if the right level has been struck in the story telling, then the Last Post when played, will always leave you with a tingle down your spine, a tear in your eye, and a sense of hope. The links between songs were set at just the right tone, whether it be poetry from the Front Line or thoughts from loved ones left at home. There were many individual “Character pieces” throughout, Marion Gaughan, Vicky Lumley, Jill Brayshaw and John Savage to name but a few, but everyone played their part. Once again, the harmonies and singing were excellent- it really does make a difference when these are well rehearsed and executed in performance. The Company numbers, the sketches and the solo parts all rattled along effortlessly, showcasing once again just how much talent this company have in their (excuse the pun) ranks. Once again, Garstang hit the right note, both literally, vocally and sentimentally. Garstang Musical Productions concert this year commemorated the 100th Anniversary of the end of the First World War, “Only Remembered-Reflections on the First World War in Spoken Word, Music and Song”, exploring the changes in music from the early 1900`s through to the end of the Great War, with a few songs thrown in from our Canadian and American Allies.
